The Town of Smiths Falls has enhanced our waste management program for 2011, in order to take another step in the right direction towards a more sustainable community.
A Three Day Collection Schedule
All solid waste collections have moved to a three-day schedule, Tuesday through Thursday, eliminating Friday collections. The previous Friday collection has been merged into Wednesday and Thursday.
New Recyclable Materials!
So many new materials have been added to our program! Many of the new materials, especially plastics No. 1-7, are an especially significant addition as they are very bulky.
A Two Stream Recycling System
All residents have been provided with an additional bin in order to separate paper products (blue bin) and containers (gold bin). Each week, you will alternate which bin you set out.
This program promotes reuse and will take place in June and August 2011.
More information on the Swap Days, the Two Stream Recycling System, New Recyclable Materials and the collection schedule can be found in the attached brochure or by contacting Vanessa Bernicky, Engineering/Environmental Coordinator, at 613-283-4124, ext. 1147, email email@example.com.
The Town of Smiths Falls is currently diverting 25 per cent of recyclables from the landfill. With this new program, we are aiming to increase this to 35 per cent in the first year.
