Hillcrest Cemetery Annual Memorial Service

Hillcrest Cemetery welcomes you to their annual Memorial Day service on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Join the cemetery for an afternoon of reflection and memorial celebration. Service begins at 2:00 p.m. at 3540 Highway 43 West, Smiths Falls.

The Hillcrest Cemetery was the private burial ground for one of the earliest Smiths Falls families, the Simpson’s. James Simpson, patriarch for the Simpson family was hired as a contractor for the development of Rideau Canal through our region. Purchased in 1869 by the Town of Smiths Falls, this public non-denominational cemetery is now the final resting place to over 10,000 people.

The Hillcrest Cemetery Memorial Day is an opportunity to remember and pay our respects to our loved ones and friends. A non-denominational service will be offered including musical accompaniment. Guests are invited after the service for a cemetery tour of the oldest portion of the cemetery, highlighting the old symbolic carvings on the monuments and some tales of some of Smiths Falls’ earliest residents. The tour is offered by donation to the cemetery.

With great thanks and appreciation the Smiths Falls Hillcrest Cemetery would like to recognize the support of its Decoration Day sponsors: the Town of Smiths Falls, Costello & Company Monuments, Blair & Son Funeral Home, Lannin Funeral Home, Dale Younge Concrete Burial Vaults and Dan Schilke.
