Media Release: Hyland/Corbett Park community consultation and barbecue planned for Aug. 24
Aug. 16, 2021
The Town of Smiths Falls is hosting a community engagement event, the Hyland/Corbett Park Revitalization Community Consultation and BBQ, on Aug. 24, 2021, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Located off Chambers Street on Empress and Sussex Streets, the Hyland/Corbett Park currently offers baseball fields and a play structure. The space was identified as a key priority in the draft Parks and Recreation Masterplan and this community consultation will be an opportunity for Town Council and staff to understand what improvements residents would like to see to this area.
“Feedback gathered from the event will guide recommendations in the 2022 budget and help Council and staff build a road map moving forward,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow. “We’re looking forward to connecting with residents and community members to have a better understanding of community needs for the space.”
The community consultation event will be free to attend and will include food and drinks and children’s activities. Local and regional community organizations have partnered for the event and will be in attendance to provide information about social services and supports available to residents in the community, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lanark County, Victim Services of Lanark County, the Child Development Centre, and Heritage House Museum, among others.
The Leeds Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit will be on site to answer questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccination program in the region and will also be operating a pop-up vaccination clinic. Please note COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place at the event.
