Smiths Falls closes municipal facilities as province moves into Step Two
On Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, the province of Ontario announced that in response to a steep increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations, the province would temporarily move to a modified Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen.
Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, the provincial government will implement a series of measures which will impact municipal services and facilities in Smiths Falls. These measures will remain in place for at least 21 days, subject to trends in public health and other indicators.
Effective Jan. 5, 2022, the Town of Smiths Falls will be closing the following facilities:
- Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre (including walking concourse)
- Smiths Falls Youth Arena
- Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum
- Seniors Centre
The Smiths Falls Public Library will continue to operate and provide services at 50 per cent capacity.
Services for pre-school children who are not registered in school will continue to be available at the Smiths Falls Child Development Centre. Those who require Targeted Emergency Child Care (for school age only) may contact email@example.com.
During this period of restrictions on indoor activities, the Town encourages residents to go outside and stay active using municipal trails and parks.
Staff are working on creating ice in the outdoor rink and are working with Public Health to confirm the rules of use. Further information will be made available to the public as it becomes available.
The Smiths Falls Town Hall closed on Dec. 24 and will remain closed until further notice. Residents and businesses are encouraged to contact staff via email or phone, and to arrange payment or drop-offs in advance. A full directory of municipal staff can be found at www.smithsfalls.ca/get-in-touch/
Residents are encouraged to continue to use online payments when possible. Residents can register for e-Bill payment through the Town of Smiths Falls website, www.smithsfalls.ca; online payments can be made via credit card, PayPal, or through online financial institutions.
