Free tree seedlings available May 10 at Smiths Falls’ seedling giveaway
The Town of Smiths Falls, in partnership with the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) and Lanark County, is pleased to announce a free tree seedling giveaway for local planting on Monday, May 10, 2021.
The tree giveaway will support the Town of Smiths Falls’ Tree Canopy Policy, which was implemented in February 2021 and which prioritizes greenspace and urban forest preservation.
On Monday, May 10, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Town will have 200 trees available for pick-up at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre at 71A Lansdowne St. Trees will be bare root and will be bundled into groups of 10 trees. The following species will be available:
- Sugar maple
- White oak
- White spruce
Citizens are able to obtain one bundle of 10 bare root trees, while quantities last. Those coming to pick up a bundle should ensure they bring something to protect the seedling’s roots until planting (ie. Plastic bag).
*Please note COVID-19 protocols and physical distancing will be in place. Trees will be placed on a table in front of the facility in bundles of 10 and people must wait in their vehicle until the person in front of them has loaded their bundle and driven away before approaching the table.
Masks are encouraged and physical distancing is mandatory.
