Public Notice: Patio season extended until Nov. 30; winter patios permitted with conditions
On June 1, 2020, Smiths Falls’ Town Council passed a by-law to waive application fees for sidewalk patios for the 2020 season, and on June 22, 2020 Council approved additional flexibility for patios to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patios are intended to be seasonal and are typically required to be removed prior to Oct. 31.
On Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, Council extended the patio season until Nov. 30, 2020, and instituted winter conditions that would allow patios to continue to operate from Dec. 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. These conditions include:
- That any patio that is occupied in a parking space will have a 1.2 m wheel stop buffer at each end of parallel space.
- The owner of the patio must ensure their area is free of snow/ice as well as an additional 1m around the perimeter.
- the owner of the patio must maintain their structure/area for the safety of the users.
