Marketing & Communications Officer
35 HOURS PER WEEK / 59 Weeks
The Town of Smiths Falls is a vibrant, progressive single tier municipality with a population of 9,500. One of Eastern Ontario’s most scenic communities, we are centrally located within an hour of Ottawa, Kingston, Brockville and the US Border. The Town provides high quality and affordable life for its residents and is nestled in between prime water frontage along the Rideau Canal – a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has many beautiful heritage buildings and recreational facilities.
Reporting to the Tourism & Culture Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for strengthening the marketing profile of the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum. They will prepare and execute marketing and communications plans across a variety of platforms and media types, including press releases, package development, social media outreach, print materials, exhibition graphics and website content creation. Digital strategies will focus on building awareness of the museum’s collections and services. They will assist in the approach of marketing best practices and analytics. They will work with staff and volunteers to seek promotional opportunities for cultural partnerships.
To be considered for this position, you must have at least 2-3 years related experience in communications, marketing or cultural services, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to conceptualize creative plans; must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Museum experience would be considered an asset.
Additional qualifications include:
- Completion of post-secondary education in a related field
- Develop, maintain and strengthen the organization’s overall brand voice through all marketing activities
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Writes and edits website, member communications and media releases
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, photo and content editing programs
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience
