WHEREAS each January, the Alzheimer Society supports and leads Canada's Alzheimer's Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS during this month, the Alzheimer Society encourages organizations across Canada, and individuals, to learn more about dementia and its stark impact on Canadians; and
WHEREAS while Alzheimer's Awareness Month may stop at the end of January, the experiences of people who live with dementia does not; and
WHEREAS by understanding what people living with dementia experience in their dayto-day-lives - their struggles, their successes and their hopes - together we can raise awareness of dementia throughout Canada; and
WHEREAS awareness is the first step to fighting stigma, reinforcing human rights and pushing for policy change, as well as other actions that can lift up Canadians living with dementia.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Shawn Pankow on behalf of the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Smiths Falls hereby proclaim January 2025, as Alzheimer's Awareness Month in the Town of Smiths Falls.
AND FURTHER THAT the Bandstand and Municipal Complex will be illuminated in blue for the month of January in recognition of Alzheimer's Awareness Month.
