Police “crack down’ on Drug Enforcement:
As seen in OPP press releases, charges have been laid in relation to warrants that were executed in town- Aberdeen Avenue, Lavinia and Helen St in Smiths Falls by Smiths Falls Police Service and the OPP CSCU(Community Street Crime Unit).
On top of these warrants, our patrol officers have stopped several vehicles in and around problem areas in our community and cracked down on suspended drivers, unlicensed drivers, no insurance, possession of CDSA, bail violations. One traffic stop in particular netted a seizure of 53 grams of crack/cocaine and charges laid that was stated in November 14th press release.
“Smiths Falls Police Service and the OPP Community Street Crime Unit continue to work collaboratively to combat the illegal distribution of drugs, remove illegal firearms from our streets and solve property crime offences. Crime has no boundaries therefore police agencies work together as a team to jointly address the communities’ needs and public safety concerns. The OPP and Smiths Falls Police Service have an excellent communicative working relationship will continue with our partnerships and sharing our policing excellence for all our communities.” – OPP Detective Staff Sergeant Chad Culbert.
“Our Service and the OPP have always worked well together in particular with enforcement. Our teams and front line officers are a very hard working group of individuals. No one is more familiar with what goes on in this town than we do. Drug activity causes a ripple effect in our community and outside jurisdictions. You have drug traffickers that set up in a home- usually a rental and suddenly the neighbour notices a lot of traffic in and out of that residence. Crime rate may increase in that area with firearm offences, overdoses, property damage, thefts, assaults and other criminal activity. This activity is then increased in both of our jurisdictions. We will continue to crack down on those that wish to sell drugs to our most vulnerable people and youth in our communities and use whatever resources we have available to do so, including sharing information with our Police Partners.” --Deputy Chief Jodi Empey Smiths Falls Police
