The Stay and Play Contest was developed by the Town of Smiths Falls’ Economic Development and Tourism Department, in partnership with the Smiths Falls & District Chamber of Commerce and the Smiths Falls Downtown Business Association, to help understand and enhance tourism offerings within the municipality.

The Visitor Information Collection Program started in 2021 as is a three-year initiative to assist the Town in gathering vital visitor data, including demographics, spending habits, first impressions and general experience feedback. Last year’s program was successful in obtaining data from close to 300 visitors to Smiths Falls in 2023. It was identified that $367.28 was the average spent per group/visit, with approximately $96,594.50 total spent within the Town by survey respondents.

Each year two getaway winners are chosen at random from the total valid responses received. The 2023 winners are Briana H. from Colborne, Ontario and Megan W. from Marathon, Ontario.

“The program assists in understanding our visitors, their wants and needs, as well as our current gaps. This information is a crucial step to plan and develop tourism offerings and will help provide insights for a future Tourism Strategic Plan” said Julia Crowder, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism.

This visitor experience survey will continue to invite those who visit Smiths Falls to provide feedback and be entered in the Stay and Play Contest for a chance to win a new getaway prize package back to beautiful Smiths Falls in 2025.
