The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Rideau Artist of the Year Competition. Almost 40 area artists braved the weather on September 7^th & 8^th in this en plein air competition. This year artists were challenged to share a picturesque vantage point from Combined Lock Station to the Bascule Bridge.

During the opening of the Rideau Artist of the Year Showcase at the Artisan Village, the museum presented Smiths Falls artist, Rachel Houlton with the Intermediate Award for a second year and MaKenna Cleaver with the Youth Award, for the 2024 competition. The Intermediate winner received a prize of $1000 and the title of Rideau Artist of the Year. The Youth winner received a prize of $200 and a $50 gift certificate to The Craft Witch. Prizes for the Rideau Artist of the Year Competition have been generously sponsored by TD Bank and The Craft Witch.

This diverse showcase of local talent from the competition will be on display for the public at the Artisan Village, 10 Maple Ave, Smiths Falls, ON K7A 1N2, Tuesday - Sunday 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, Fridays 11:00 am - 7:00 pm until November 2, 2024.

Annual Art Show

The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum also invites artists to participate in their next show, the 43^rd Annual Art Show. Every November & December, the museum showcases the artistic talents of the region. Amateur & professional artists have the opportunity to display their works together in a special celebration of art and culture during the holiday season, November 10 - December 21, 2024. It is free for artists to apply for the show but those who are selected for the show will be asked to pay a $35 registration fee. Applications are due by October 19, 2024, and can be sent electronically from the museum or can be picked up directly at 11 Old Slys Road, Smiths Falls, Wednesday to Sunday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
