The Sports & Recreation Hall of Fame took place on June 23, 2024, at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. Inductees include Stu Smith, Brian Smith, Tim Norris & the 73’ Smiths Falls Senior Redmen football team.
Born and raised in Smiths Falls, bodybuilder Tim Norris has been competing, placing, and winning numerous Strong Man, bodybuilding and powerlifting competitions in Ontario and the United States throughout his career. Competing in the 55+ age category, and recently setting a new Canadian record benching 325 lbs in his weight class, Tim continues to represent Smiths Falls with his hard work, dedication, and passion for fitness.
Brian Smith started his hockey career in Smiths Falls before playing Jr’s in Hamilton, which caught the attention of a scout for the Detroit Red Wings. Playing over 60 games for Detroit, his first NHL point was from an assist on a goal by Gordie Howe. In his years to follow, Brian played for several teams in the EHL, WHL & AHL, where he racked up an impressive number of goals and assists.
Stu Smith started minor hockey in Manitoba and moved on to the Jr’s in both Manitoba and Sudbury before signing as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens in 1941. In 1950 Stu moved to Smiths Falls where he played for the Smiths Falls Rideaus for an impressive 10 years.
The SFDCI Senior Redmen captured the Lanark County Championship in 1973, which was the first of three in a row for the Redmen. The team’s dedication to hard work, fair play, and a positive team culture created life lessons and lasting friendships for all members.
