New Smiths Falls Farmers Market to Open June 2nd!
Smiths Falls, ON – The Town of Smiths Falls Economic and Tourism Department has been working with local entrepreneurs Brian and Michael Adams, owners of the Artisan Village At The Falls, to revive a long awaited local farmers market in Town. “Community is much more than belonging to something; it’s about doing something together that makes belonging matter – Brian Solis”, quoted Michael Adams. The new Farmers Market At The Falls will run weekly from 3:00pm-7:30pm, every Friday between June 2nd to October 13th. The seasonal outdoor market located at the corner of William and Maple Street, a block from the downtown, will complement the indoor, year-round artisans’ village hub on the property. “Council was thrilled to learn that a Farmer’s Market is in the works at The Artisan Village. Although we have seen these pop up in our community at different times in the past, it is something we have missed in recent years.” said Mayor Shawn Pankow. “I would like to thank Brian and Mike Adams for undertaking this investment into our community and am confident it will draw an abundance of vendors ready to share their produce and products with our citizens and visitors.” A Farmers Market has been a topic of discussion for Council and Community over the last few years. It was identified as a key priority in the Town’s Cultural Plan. The Adam’s in working with the Town to develop a unique artistic venture, decided to take on the task of facilitating a new market for the community. Town staff are in support of the idea of a privately managed market concept, which meant there was no need to form or manage a formal Town Market Committee. Funding from the Town’s on the Roll Program, which support cultural programs and events, was provided to help offset the costs of musical entertainment and other arts/cultural activities at the market and village. “This unique retail offering provides space for local artists (and retailers) to create and sell their wares. Spaces like the Village and Farmers Market act as a local business incubator where new/home based business can have affordable and scalable opportunities to start and grow their business.” said Julia Crowder, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism.
