PROCLAMATION
WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH APRIL, 2024
TOWN OF SMITHS FALLS

WHEREAS Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects more than 100,000 Ontarians; and

WHEREAS Autism spectrum disorder affects a person's social relationships, communication, interests and behaviours, and

WHEREAS early intervention for young children on the autism spectrum may help them develop communication, social and other skills, resulting in more meaningful participation in their communities, and

WHEREAS children, youth and adults on the autism spectrum and their families can benefit from community supports and inclusive practices, and, with this assistance, an increasing number of individuals on the autism spectrum are able to live and work independently, and

WHEREAS Autism Ontario is dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals with whom they interact.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Shawn Pankow, Mayor of the Town of Smiths Falls do hereby proclaim the month of April, 2024 as Autism Awareness Month in the Town of Smiths Falls.
