NATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2024
WHEREAS National Police Week began in 1970 as a way for the police to connect with their communities and to increase awareness about the services they provide.
WHEREAS Police services across Ontario and Nationwide celebrate Police Week annually, to honour and thank the work that front-line police officers, 9-1-1 communicators, civilian staff, and all members of Ontario police services do to keep people safe and healthy; and

WHEREAS the Smiths Falls Police Service has provided excellent, professional and friendly policing to the residents of Smiths Falls since 1887; and

WHEREAS the role and objectives of the Smiths Falls Police Service in our community include deterring criminal activity, improving road safety, ensuring critical incident/major event & emergency preparedness, protecting vulnerable members of the community, developing partnerships that focus on prevention, and increasing public education.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Shawn Pankow, Mayor of the Town of Smiths Falls, do hereby proclaim the week of May 12th - 18th, 2023, as Police Week in The Town of Smiths Falls.

AND FURTHER THAT this year, we recognize the oath officers proudly take to be "committed to serve" communities who want and expect the police to keep them safe.
