Town of Smiths Falls Creates New Resident and Business Welcome Guides
Smiths Falls, ON – The Economic Development and Tourism Department is pleased to launch the New Resident and Business Welcome Guides that aim to provide an all-in-one resource for New Residents and New Businesses to access information about moving, living and doing business in the community.
The 2021 Census noted a 5.4% population increase in Smiths Falls since 2016 and as the community continues to grow, the Town has been able to track 70 new businesses since 2019 with more continuing to come.
Created as both print and online references, the guides provide tips on areas of interest to newcomers including garbage collection, pet tags, cultural and recreational programs, health care, local organizations, business and community support programs and resources, and much more.
"We take great pride in unveiling our New Resident and Business Welcome Guides, designed to foster a warm introduction for those who choose to call our vibrant community their home,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow. “These guides are a testament to our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment, where both individuals and enterprises can thrive and flourish. As we extend a heartfelt welcome to our newest residents and businesses, we eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will undoubtedly have on our community."
In working and consulting with a number of community stakeholders, including the real estate community, community organizations, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Association and Small Business Advisory Centre, the Economic Development and Tourism Department developed these economic and community development resources to provide those who settle here or are interested in moving here, information about everyday services and resources in the community. These not only serve newcomers but also aim to attract new residents and businesses by promoting all the amazing things Smiths Falls has to offer.
“The guides were designed to provide information about our community, and the important services and resource that new residents and entrepreneurs would want to know. The idea is to make settling into our community easier for newcomers by providing central sources for all the crucial information,” said Julia Crowder, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism.
You can view the digital versions of both guides on the Town’s website below:
Paper copies are currently being printed and will be available at Town Hall and other community locations in the next few weeks.
