Multiple Motor Vehicle Collisions with Injuries
The Smiths Falls Police have observed a noticeable increase in Motor vehicle collisions involving cyclists and pedestrians. Motorists are reminded to use caution while driving through intersections and be especially aware of cyclist and pedestrians. Pedestrians are also reminded to follow the rules of the road, obey traffic laws and cyclists are reminded to ensure your safety by using appropriate protective equipment, obey the traffic laws and have the appropriate equipment as per the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario such as bells, lighting and helmets for those under 16 years of age.
Male Arrested on Criminal Code Driving Offences
On October 16th, 2024 an arrest was made in relation to a Smiths Falls Police Service investigation that began on September 18th, 2024. This investigation involving a male driver being a suspended driver along with other HTA and Criminal Code Offences.
The vehicle in question was observed traveling within the town of Smiths Falls, a stop was not conducted at the time for public safety. The officer again observed the vehicle, identified the driver as 22-year-from Perth. The officer attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle driver fled. For safety of the public the officer disengaged and did not pursue the fleeing vehicle.
The continued investigation led the officer to lay criminal charges of Failing to comply with probation X2, flight from police, drive suspend and other Highway Traffic Act Offences.
With the assistance of the OPP the accused driver was placed under arrest and held in Smiths Falls Police custody awaiting a bail hearing to answer to the charges.
Male Youth Arrested on Breach Charges:
On October 17th, 2024 the Smiths Falls Police Service were conducting routine patrol in the North East area of town and made observations of a male youth in Breach of his current release conditions. The accused male party was found to be out past his court appointed curfew. The officer arrested the youth and found him to be in possession of a concealed weapon. The youth was charged appropriately with Failure to comply with release order, carry concealed weapon and possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose. This is the second incident with the accused in less than a month for the same charges.
The accused youth was held in police custody to await a bail hearing.
Male Arrested: Intoxication in Public Place:
On October 17th, 2024 The Smiths Falls Police Service received a call from a local business in relation to a male patron refusing to pay his bill and concerns for his safety. Officer attended the establishment and learned the male had only been there a short time but he had accumulated a reasonable bill and refused to pay. The male was arrested and later MORRISON was later released once sober with a Provincial Offence Notice.
Male Youth Arrested on Breach Charges:
On October 20th, 2024 the Smiths Falls Police Service were called by a local, business for two unwanted persons. Officers attended the business and found two youth attempting to flee out the back door. The youth were quickly stopped and identified with one of the youth found to be in breach of his current release conditions. The youth was arrested and charged appropriately with Failure to comply with release order.
The accused youth was held in police custody to await a bail hearing.
Male Youth Arrested on Breach Charges:
On October 20th, 2024 officers located a male youth that was known to be wanted by the OPP on an outstanding warrant.
During the arrest the youth assaulted a police officer and charged accordingly with Failure to comply with release order and assault police officer. He was turned over to the OPP.
Male Arrested on IPV breaches:
On October 23rd, 2024 the Smiths Falls Police Service entered into an investigation regarding an Intimate Partner Investigation called in by a concerned neighbour. Investigation revealed that a male who had been released on bail twice with no fixed address had entered through the back door of his victim’s residence. The male attempted to flee but was arrested by police. The accused was arrested with failing to comply with probation order X6, failing to comply with release order X2 and being unlawfully in a dwelling house. He was held in custody again to await another bail hearing.Contact Us
