Heritage House Museum Announces Remarkable Women of Smiths Falls Traveling Exhibit

Smiths Falls, ON – The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum is excited to announce the opening of the Remarkable Women of Smiths Falls traveling exhibit, beginning on March 1, 2024.

In July of 2022, the Museum hosted Remarkable Women of Smiths Falls exhibit and celebrated 28 women who have lived or worked in Smiths Falls and have made positive contributions to the community. This event showcases the achievements and lives of exceptional women that make up the Smiths Falls community.

In 2023, the Museum launched the Remarkable Women of Smiths Falls Travelling Exhibit, which brought these stories into the local businesses throughout the downtown and added 8 more women to the exhibit.

This year the museum has coordinated with the Smiths Falls Downtown Business Association to feature the panels from the exhibit in public locations throughout Smiths Falls for the month of March; in honour of International Women’s Day on March 8. There will also be a select number of panels included as part of the Smiths Falls Curling and Squash Club’s International Women’s Day Bonspiel event on Friday, March 8.

The women featured in this exhibit have been chosen and nominated by the public. All the nominees in this exhibition have been selected for their service to the community and live, work or are involved in the Smiths Falls community.

“The Town of Smiths Falls has thrived over the years thanks to the immense contribution of the women in our community,” said Councillor Jay Brennan. “I am delighted that Heritage House Museum has given the community a platform to recognize, honour and celebrate the Remarkable Women of Smiths Falls”.

The Museum will be reopening and accepting nominations for the Remarkable Women of Smiths Falls Exhibit in October 2024, as a part of Canadian Women’s History Month.
