WHEREAS since 1998, March 5th has been recognized as World Energy Efficiency Day;

AND WHEREAS World Energy Efficiency Day aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce energy consumption through reasonable energy use;

AND WHEREAS finding ways to avoid energy waste - electricity, gas, water - is critical in the fight against climate change as it contributes to emitting less carbon and methane into the atmosphere;

AND WHEREAS everyone can take some measures to achieve a good level of energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Shawn Pankow, Mayor of the Town of Smiths Falls hereby proclaim March 5th World Energy Efficiency Day in the Town of Smiths Falls;

AND FURTHER THAT although a society-wide problem, every little bit helps and community members are encouraged to celebrate World Energy Efficiency Day by using energy responsibly.
